Blankie, Crate, Cut

Here is the cute piece of fabric I got, which I had hemmed, to make a blanket for Hula's new designer crate! And actually... I think it really is designer now, because I designed it!

There's a little plate on the front of the crate that I took the opportunity to bedazzle.

Hula likes it!! I got REALLY excited and made really happy voices when I was putting it together, so Hula thought it was a real treat to be inside of it. Then I praised her a lot when she climbed inside. I think that made a difference. Plus... doggies like small spaces. That's a fact. Well... at least small dogs do. Hula always puts herself in her (other) crate.

Last, but certainly not least, I got an awesome haircut!

Time/Space Continuum

A noise the size of a space craft, just sounded outside my home. Can't even imagine what could make such a sound.

The millionth, adorable picture of Hula.

CeeJay and me, playing dress up.

I sold $60 IN JEWELRY YESTERDAY!!! I couldn't have been more excited. (Sold to the lovely lass, pictured above- CeeJay.) I even PayPal invoiced, so it was all official and paid by credit card! Ha! Loving! Excuse me, do you take credit cards? Yes, I take credit cards. In addition to paying me, she felt like it wasn't enough, so she gave me this AMAZING armories. My (personal) jewelry has never had a more incredible home.

***

I'm going to pick up the raddest piece of fabric that I've had sewn into a little blanket, for Hula (just had the edges hemmed). I'll post a pic of it. I got it made because I want her doggy "home" to match the office I plan to be working at, by the end of the month. It's a design company, so she's gotta have a cute, designer spot!

I found this quote today, in Daily Love (such an awesome e mail/website)...

"They have become strong enough to be independent of the good opinion of other people, or even of their affection. The honors, the status, the rewards, the popularity, the prestige, and the love they can bestow must have become less important than self-development and inner growth."

- A main characteristic of a self-actualized person, by Abraham Maslow.

... let's hear it for love! xoxoxo

UH-Dorable!

This is from a blog called Naughty Secretary Club. This post is about cute things you can do with suitcases, besides put clothes in them. I'M IN LOVE!

I was reading the bio a bit and... it's often very funny to me, to see that... though I really don't look like any of my girlfriends, or my boyfriend and though I often feel like I have a really quirky sense of style and taste, there are legions of chicks doing the same thing and having the same preferences as me. I just don't know any of them personally. I like that. Makes me feel like there's a home I haven't been to, yet.

Sweet People In My Jewels

I've been collecting a few pics of people in my jewelry, lately. Gosh... that makes me so, incredibly happy. Thought it was time to do a wee post about it!

Carly- Black pearl on sterling. I know... hard to see, but it's such a pretty picture. Note- it's a little off to her right. It's meant to be centered... but the poor girl is holding one of her TWO daughters (Tula). How much can you ask of someone?!!

CeeJay- Turquoise on sterling.

CeeJay- Pearl Girl

Jet- Maroon, freshwater pearl on Gunmetal.

Yay!!! Surely more to come.

Chihuahua Chaos

CJ and Stella came over last night. I've never seen Hula make that chirping noise for such an extended amount of time. Stella was FEELIN' it.

I've Wondered

I've thought of it before... wondered why the fire changes as we get older. I think this quote is lovely and says a lot...

"Through our great good fortune, in our youth our hearts were touched with fire. It was given to us to learn at the outset that life is a profound and passionate thing."

- Oliver Wendell Holmes, was an American physician, professor, lecturer and author.

Good Monday

Scaling down the apartment. Things look TOE UP. It's so fun to live somewhere that you're leaving. Gives you the opportunity to be messy and relaxed. Seriously, I'm SUCH a neat person. It's like becoming someone else, to not constantly be cleaning and organizing. Woo!

Grabbed these at Subway. If you're tempted to, avoid it. They're literally sour. They weren't awful, but they were not super fun.

Found THIS FUN SITE, yesterday. Thank you Lauren, for sending me an article with one of the feeders in it! I think, once we move, I may get one of these for the Hula girllllll...

Yay!

Tally Godda Shout Out

First time submitting a pic of my tattoo, to anything. In fact, first time for anyone, besides maybe me and a couple of people, seeing this (colored) pic! I loved what the gal who posts for Fuck Yeah, said about it. Felt good.

Collection of Emotions

When Sella and I were loft hunting. Many moons ago.

This pic is so sweet, to me. Just like this apartment with nothing in it, my new life had just started and was open to fill.

The slightest tinge of sadness as the last of the pieces of furniture I want to sell, got sold yesterday. My apartment... it looks very much like it did, the first couple weeks of me living here (above). Before I moved into this apartment, I was thick with things I needed to get over and get up and out. I really did it... I got out all of those things and I dealt. Maybe that's part of why I'm so ready to leave. Kisses and kisses and more kisses to the lovely people I've met here. Sincerely... some of the best humans around.

Here's Hula in a doggy/cat pod. Hullo? Mama? I'd like to get down now.

I made this yesterday. It's mostly composed of curtain trim. It's SO SOFT and fun fun fun to wear. When people make a curious face at what you've got around your neck and in response, you go "fuck, I love this new adornment," that's how you know something is perfect for you.

Everything is tying off. For this, I am ever so, so, so happy.

Craig's Connections and... Well... Food.

A beautiful, small bite, my neighbor made for herself and her husband. Kimchi, pickled seaweed, sauteed greens and fried eggs.

I have been selling LOTS of things on Craig's List, for my move. I, of COURSE, only put things on there to sell and in no way thought I'd have any other experience than selling things. But much to my delight, I've gotten to know little bits about people coming to buy things, that are special and sweet. Yesterday, I met THIS girl.

She showed up in a 50's glam scarf and the convertible in the pic above (not her actual car, but one like it). There was just something about her that was cool. I followed a link from her email and it turns out she's a journalist getting up to all kinds of amazing things. And she just came to buy a table of mine! I've written her. I hope we might strike up a friendship.

So, since Alaska got sick, I've forbidden him from eating any more Ramen with the seasoning packet. However, so he doesn't feel Ramen-starved, I made the noodles with pasta sauce yesterday. HOLY HELL IT'S THE BEST. I wasn't sure how it would turn out... it's ridiculous. I actually don't even care about pasta noodles, but Ramen and sauce made me really WANT to eat "pasta."

Larch, Pour, Home

Hula and I went to the vet today. She is... potentially the most understanding and intuitive dog of all time. She didn't even FLINCH when she got shots. So sweet, sweet. We go to Larchmont Animal Clinic. I LOVE Larchmont Blvd., so it all works out. Plus, they're sweet there!

The vet requested she get a teeth cleaning. Oh MY her teeth are plaque-ey. If anyone who reads this would like to comment on a cleaning, I would love to hear your thoughts. Some old-school people say it's not necessary, but I'm thinking the modern approach is to do it about once a year or every couple of years. Hmm...

Afterward, in an effort to get all doggy maintenance out of the way, we went to Pour La Pooch, to get a nail trim! The shop is run by one of the most loving and wonderful woman I've ever met- Gia. She loves doggies and people so much, it's like she's a raw beam of light. Pour La Pooch is across from Erewhon, on Beverly, so I ate at Erewhon afterward. A "fakin' bacon" sammich. Mmm...

Speaking of Fakin' Bacon, I found that beautiful picture from this beautiful Blog called Vegan Crunk. In it to win it, baby!

Ooh! We also got some homemade lollys at Pour. Apple and Grape. They are for people, not pooches.

My beautiful cousin, Carly, sent me a pic of herself, in a necklace I sent her, for her birthday. It's sterling and black pearl. I love it on her.

On the way in to Pour, I have to say, I found the best flier in the history of fliers. Luckily, I have a picture of it. I think I'm going to call him. He seems nice... (click picture to enlarge)

Yay! xoxoxo

Sweet Simplicity

What an absolutely tender and forgivable song.

I found this video by an article I was reading, about Agyness Deyn. They linked this singing debut of hers and I played it, expecting... well... you know. But how sweet! There isn't a lot of pop like this, any longer. Kind of 80's and very... "take it for what it is." Not trying hard, not pretending to be something it's not.

In other words, refreshing in its greenness.

A Great Wednesday

I've spent WAY too long, being led around on Flickr, by sweet treats, made of clay. It seems the crafters and their abilities don't stop! It's beyond belief. THEN I found this marvelous crafter today, on Etsy. WOWZERS. Massively inspiring.

This morning I awoke to the BEST e mail from my friend/producer from Brand New School. He said they were working out details for the position that... well... that I was brought in for a meeting, for. I was so excited, I might as well have skipped coffee this morning. But you know... of COURSE I did not.

Yay for working at a job you love!!!

Because I wanted to find some comfortable shoes for running around an office, but that aren't my flip flops that I wear EVERY SINGLE DAY OF SUMMER... (no joke. My tan lines tell the tale), I grabbed these at Payless. I swear, I have been shopping there forever.
$16.99

I also got these sunglasses at a shop around the block. $5!!! The store (it was mostly just a carousel of glasses and the rest of the store was boxes) said it was "wholesale only" but when you go into those places and play dumb, usually they'll sell you a thing or two. I can promise I'll be visiting downtown, once I move, to s-h-o-p for everything. I do love that about these streets.

Mmm... tried this tonight... Winner!

And that was my lovely day! xoxoxo

OBSESSED

I can't stop!!!!!!! Are you KIDDING ME WITH THE DETAIL OF THESE WONDERFUL TREATS!!!!!??????? Find this beautiful artist at this beautiful blog...

When I was little, I was OBSESSED with miniatures. I still have a sweet little collection now. My mom and I used to go to dollhouse shows just to faint from the details of these tiny little sets. I'm feeling it ALL OVER AGAIN, thanks to incredible artists I'm coming across on Flickr.

You can also find this person on Etsy.

xoxo!

Lots!

Yesterday f'ing rocked. My interview at Brand New School... well... it didn't even feel like an interview. Just friends hanging out and talking. I don't really even want to express my desire for this position. I'll leave that to me and The Universe.

(Thank you, Universe)

I made a cake!

Okay... the hilarious news is- I used Hula's DOG CAKE RECIPE, as the basis for it. The thing is... Hula's cake was REALLY GOOD. Not very sweet so you could gob frosting on top and it wouldn't taste like you were eating 67 spoons of sugar at one time. Plus it was moist and light.

So I did:

1 c flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 c peanut butter
1/4 c vegetable oil
1 c... and here's the one I went out on a limb with... I did 3 strawberries and some carrot juice I had, to make a carrot/strawberry smoothie... 1 c worth. You could ABSOLUTELY taste the strawberries and the carrot gave it some flavor but didn't make the cake taste carrot-ey. I say- if you have strawberries, just blend w/ water. Not everyone just has carrot juice sitting around.
1 tsp vanilla
1/3 c honey (I only had sugar and liked how sweet it made it)
1 egg- BUT- if you don't know this, you can substitute 2 tbsp of mayonnaise for 1 egg. Yeah! It's because mayo is composed of eggs and oil and salt. It makes it REALLY moist. Total recommend.

Mix that shit up! Bake at 350... but watch it. It bakes fast. Maybe... 15min? I don't remember. But seriously, THIS CAKE IS YUM.

I have eaten this cake with both chocolate frosting and alone. Great for breakfast if you eat it alone. Great for dessert w/ gobs of frosting.

I made these yesterday! Been getting SO INSPIRED by so so so many wonderful things I'm finding on flickr. SO MANY WOMEN MAKING SO MANY BEAUTIFUL CRAFTS!!!! I got the urge and bought cute eyeshadow palettes, then glued plastic cabochons onto them. SO easy and SO cute! Fun prezzies!!!

Hot Fudge Sundae

Have started my morning with these for the past two days. This is what I like to think of as the breakfast of Sugar Fairies. What is a Sugar Fairy, you ask? Well, it was a term I thought I'd made up, until I Google Image Searched it.

Awesome.

REALLY been feeling The Dainty Squid. Found her through Fuck Yeah Tattoos. She's a wonderful designer and has my kind of taste!! Everything in her world is very colorful and full. She seems like a rainbow burst. So sweet. She also sells on Etsy! I love to know a person like this, is out there. Just being BIG and WONDERFUL. Not at all hidden. Her tattoos are pretty sick, too. xoxo Dainty Squid!!

Sweet Dreams

This is a story about a cupcake and his dreams of exploring a new life. NO JOKE, I almost cried at the end.

NO
JOKE

It's kind of long, but so, so, so worth it...

Hush

Here is Hula, purposefully not looking at the camera.

Alaska did not feel well, today. It started last night. We tried to fix it, but we had to turn to the experts- the Koreans. My sweet, wonderful neighbor, Soyoung, made him this meal, to heal him.

Picture of the three of us (not last night, but a different one).

Last night when Alaska didn't feel good, I took him to Soyoung and said- HEAL HIM!! She gave him this elixir. He didn't understand what it was so I told him I wanted to break up, but didn't know how to do it, so I'd brought him over to Soyoung to be poisoned. I think it just made his stomach hurt worse. Curses!

We're watching Dogs 101, on Animal Planet. WHAT a cute show. It kind of goes through every dog breed (well, a lot of them) and explains their temperament(s) and talks about where they come from. Nach, the Chihuahua one was the best thing I've ever seen in my life.

Though I will truly miss Soyoung and all of the lovely people at The Chapman, I'm so excited about the MM. Hooray for Hush! H4H!

I Have Cool Whip on Coffee

Trashy Lingerie did not work out. I'm not a sales girl. I believe... I think I'm an admin girl. I just love that shit. I love to organize. I even LOVE paperwork! Wha??

I am SO SO SO SO excited... I have an interview with Brand New School, on Monday. Oh my Lordy. I worked at BNS about... when I was 26 (thru) 28. It was a very warm place to be. In fact, it was the job by which I've measured all other jobs, subsequently. I am SO SO SO SO excited... have I mentioned that?

I generally don't post things like this, but I sure liked ziiss one...

Iz dis menny weeks old I can has cheezburger NOW?

I got this link in an Etsy email today. Such lovely necklaces. Even lovelier pictures. I think I'll try a longer piece soon. And how about THIS adorable offering!!! Why do I want a whole collection of these? I don't know and don't care. I would just like a big ole scoop...

I'm moving back to The Miracle Mile. Yet another thing I'm SO SO SO excited about. Aah... so many things to feel blessed over... By the way, incredibly, I worked in the second-tallest, white building, in the Miracle Mile link.

And wow! Here is the building again! I knew it was old, but I've never seen a super old picture of it. It's the building on the right... Desmonds. I worked on the... 4th(?) floor, in a cool loft.

And holy shit! Here it is again!! The tallest white building in the background. I didn't know it was so prominent!
